Day 63: Two Months Already...
I've now been in Germany for two months. Honestly, it feels like just yesterday I was racing through the streets of Salamanca trying to hand out my notes to my classmates and say goodbye to everyone... These two months have been full of experiences—some good, some bad—but overall, they've been incredibly enriching. My German has improved quite a bit (considering I knew absolutely nothing when I arrived...), and I can now get by, at least a little. Every day, I try to dedicate at least two hours to studying, using the course Ángel Holguera downloaded for me from the internet: Deutsche, warum nicht? (German, why not?) and a grammar exercise book. Today has been a quiet day. I woke up a bit late, spent most of the day working on the lab report from that idiot's session, went to study German at the university library (an architectural masterpiece—I'll post pictures later!), did NOT go to my German class (I'll explain why some other day), and then went to watch basketball—the Dresden Titans. They're the city's main team, and if I'm not mistaken, they play in a league equivalent to Spain's third division in football. One of the players is Nacho, an Argentinian friend who gets us free tickets. Unfortunately, he barely gets any playing time, even though he's really good—because his coach, Marcel, is a bit of a xenophobe (yeah, no surprise, this country has quite a few xenophobes—just like the idiot from the other day). Still, from the stands, we cheer him on and shout, "MARCEL, PUT HIM IN!!!" We even try to get the crowd to do a wave, but Germans are pretty dull, and it never makes it past half the stadium. I brought my camera so you can see what it's like. Oh, and by the way, they won by more than 20 points!
