The lecture hall where it all happened
The lecture hall where it all happened

Day 122: You're dozing off, boy!

Today in Separation Methods and Instrumental Analysis class (a class that starts at 7:30 in the morning), a German student fell asleep. This isn’t anything new—if you look around at any point during the lecture, you’ll see plenty of people sleeping.

What was funny this time is that he fell asleep on the desk. We’re in the Hörsaalzentrum, in a 550-seat lecture hall (though at this point in the semester there are about 80 students attending), and both the chairs and desks are foldable. That’s the funny part of the story—because he fell asleep on the desk, it folded up, and with the weight of his body, he was launched forward, did a sort of somersault, and landed face-first on the row in front of him (a drop of about... 120 cm).

He made such a noise that even the professor—who’s used to all kinds of interruptions—stopped the class and came up to help him recover. Some people laughed about it for the rest of the class, and well... the Germans can be a bit of a cruel bunch.
