Day 165: Second Day in Westphalia
Today has been a great day. Last night we partied until eight in the morning at the student club located right below our room, and today we slept until one in the afternoon. After that, we went to see Bielefeld University. And what a university!
Bielefeld University consists of just one building—an enormous building they call “the ship.” Inside it are all the faculties and every service a student might need. There are professors’ offices, lecture halls, restaurants (including kebab), a savings bank, a swimming pool, a gym, student associations (especially active ones), the library (open 24 hours a day), the canteen… It’s fantastic. The whole university community coexists together, and everything is centralised. A truly efficient university. All of this is in stark contrast with the University of Salamanca, so chaotic…
Later we spent the whole afternoon at a thermal bath. I think I mentioned yesterday that I bought myself a hideous swimming costume. The spa was incredible—it had several pools with warm water, some with water jets, others with bubbles, and some that opened to the outside (where it was below 0°C). It also had attractions like a tube slide you rode down on an inflatable ring from the third floor, or a high-pressure water jet that launched you into the air when you landed on it coming off a slide. There were also diving boards, saunas… We spent the entire afternoon going down the tube and the slide, competing with several children who dared to challenge us. I also spent half an hour in a naturist sauna at 85°C. We had a really great time.
And tomorrow… Amsterdam!
Here are all the photos of the university and of the day:
